Getareason - Rebecca Menzies
Getareason
9yo Chestnut Gelding
Previously trained by Willie Mullins, winning a bumper and twice over hurdles (promoted to first after City Island was disqualified). He has also placed at Grade 1 & 2 level. He moved to Paul Nicholls in the summer and had three starts over fences for him, finishing 3rd and 4th in the first of those starts. He ran on Boxing Day at Kempton and was running a nice race before making a mistake and losing a shoe which put paid to his chances.
Horses of this nature often find it much easier in the north, and at/around 2m 4f on good ground is what he’s crying out for. He did his winning on sharp tracks in Ireland so the likes of Musselburgh, Sedgefield, Catterick should suit. He may even be the sort of horse for something like the summer plate at Market Rasen. As Becky has proven with Sao (from the same source) she is more then capable of getting some improvement out of these types of horses and this one certainly doesn’t have the quirks that Sao would have. He’s currently rated 134 so will be competing at a slightly higher level. He will be able to compete over both hurdles and fences.
Showed his ability remains in jumpers bumpers before heading back over hurdles. Travelling ever so well turning in at Doncaster it looked a bit ‘how far’ but the trip turned out to be a stretch for him. He’s come out of that race extremely well and he will drop down to 2m4-2m5 next time.
Dropping back in trip at Newcastle (30/3/21) finishing third behind two smart horses including a Grade 2 hurdle winner. Running another credible race on ground riding slightly dead.
1/5/21 Getareason got off the mark over fences at Hexham. Travelling powerfully throughout and jumping well on the whole he pulled away to win by 4 1/4 lengths.
2/6/21 A 3 runner race with the front two pulling well clear Donald McCains smart mare Bannixtown Glory just got the better of Getareason in receipt of 10lb, he battled all the way to the line, which was probably his best effort to date.
18/6/21 One to put a line through, we went to Market Rasen to see how he’d handle the track in regards to possibly going for the Summer Plate. He hated every second of going that way round and the rain soften ground did him no favours.
19/7/21 Back to Cartmel for another tactical 4 runner affair, running better then his last place finish he was possibly over the top by this point.
He has had a break since and his soft palate attended too.
Shaped with promise on two runs back from his break on ground plenty soft enough for him. He will be ticked over at home whilst we await his preferred spring/summer ground. We will have plenty of fun with him off 116.
Finishing a good third in a Class 3 at Newcastle sporting a first time visor it shows how imperative better ground is for him.
Adding another win to his tally dropped into a Class 4 travelled like the best horse in the race and duly won by 3 lengths.
2/4/22 followed up his LTO win with another at Ayr on Scottish National Day under a great ride by Peter Coleman.
7/5/22 Unfortunately has subsequently picked up an injury in training and will miss the rest of the year.
