Harry Eustace

Harry Eustace has lived and breathed horseracing from before he even sat in a saddle. He grew up at Park Lodge Stables in Newmarket when his father, James Eustace, moved his family there in 1989 to take over as trainer.

Growing up with a renowned trainer as a father and surrounded by horses, Harry soon discovered his own passion for horseracing. Between studying for GCSEs and A Levels at Harrow, he worked in the Bloodstock department at Tattersalls Ltd, the UK’s main racehorse auctioneer. While still at university in Edinburgh, he helped out at the family stables during the holidays. After his studies he took up positions in Australia with Lee Freedman at Lee Freedman Racing and Peter Snowden at Snowden Racing in Australia.

In 2011 Harry studied at the Irish National Stud, earning its world-recognised Thoroughbred Breeding Certificate. From there he returned to Newmarket where he worked with Chris Wall at Induna Stables, followed by Jeremy Noseda at Shalfleet Stables.

Keen to build on his international experience further, Harry moved stateside in 2013 to work for leading American trainer Christophe Clement at Christophe Clement Racing Stable, in New York State. Following three years there, he returned to Newmarket once again in 2016, this time working as Assistant Trainer to William Haggas, one of the Royal Trainers to The Queen.

Harry took over the reins at Park Lodge Stables in 2021, following on from his father’s 30 years as a trainer. He plans to keep up the family tradition of a deep love and understanding of horseracing, so you and your horse will benefit from his own unique experience, as well as his family’s vast knowledge and expertise.

Becky has made a cracking start to her training career. Having relocated to Howe Hills near Sedgefield, the facilities have been gradually updated and added to and are second to none, including a theraplate, and spa. Becky is extremely accommodating to each horse's individual needs and this has been richly rewarded we are pleased to add her to the team. She has a great team of staff and is steadily upgrading her squad which is a testament to how far she has come.

Charlie Johnston

Charlie has taken over the sole licence from Mark who is one of Britain’s leading trainers, having become the first Flat trainer to send out more than 200 winners in a season (2009), a feat which he has, to date, repeated in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. In 2018 Mark became the winning most trainer in the UK.

Uniquely, he has trained more than 100 British winners for 29 consecutive seasons, achieving success in British and Irish Classics and in numerous Group One races.

By the end of 2021, when Mark joined forces with son, Charlie, in a training partnership, Mark had amassed a record-breaking 4,874 British winners in all; 4,869 of those wins came in Flat races, while he also trained five winners under National Hunt rules.

Since then, Charlie’s responsibilities within the yard have included preparing the daily work list, booking jockeys, planning gallops and representing the stable on the racecourse; in discharging these tasks, and others, he has demonstrated his worth to the yard and, after completing the required BHA modules, he gained his licence and began training with Mark under a training partnership on January 1, 2022.

As of Jan 1st 2023 Charlie holds the licence in his name alone .

Alice Haynes

With a background steeped in equestrianism, Alice is one of Newmarket’s new young ambitious trainers! Growing up Alice would be spending her time eventing and at Pony Club. She then delved into the racing industry aged only 15. Alice started at Henrietta Knights where she then went on to get her apprentice licence for Mick Channon before moving to HQ where she worked for David Simcock as an apprentice. Alice has ridden over 10 winners!

Alice then started her Pre-Training career. Having a very successful pre training business for the likes of Varian Stable, William Haggas and Blue Diamond Stud, Alice decided she had completed this task and needed her next challenge. Alice decided to take out her training licence and is now based at the bottom of famous Warren Hill. Her ethos is small yard, big results. Each horse is individually trained for their individual needs, love and care goes into everything Alice does, and she tries to give all of her owners a service where they can be involved in their horse’s journey.

Jedd O’Keeffe

Jedd is a new addition to our training team. Jedd is well accustomed in the Northern circle under both codes. Notably recently for the achievements of Sam Spinner who notched a Grade 1 success at Ascot in the Long Walk Hurdle. Based in Middleham within touching distance of Karl Burke’s facilities include the High and Low Moor gallops, a horse walker and beautiful big American barns with all year turnout paddocks. They have an excellent team at home who go above and beyond for the horses care.

Karl Burke

Karl is a vastly experienced and highly successful trainer who has worked his way up to the top after starting training with just a handful of horses in the late 1980s.

Strong year-on-year progression saw Karl move to the impressive Spigot Lodge in Middleham, and Karl has never looked back.

Spigot is ideally situated between the famous Middleham High and Low Moor gallops and is steeped in racing history.
