Spirit Catcher
New Bay X Lidanski
Chestnut Gelding
A standout specimen of the Goffs Uk Breeze Up sale purchased for 120,000 he is a half brother to Prix De L’Abbaye winner Wizz Kid and Hibernicus whom Mark trained to win his first two starts.
Spirit Catcher made his debut at Redcar (2/10/21) over 7f, making all he won by an impressive 4 lengths. A hugely exciting individual.
2/10/21 Made an impressive winning debut at Redcar, pulling clear by 4 lengths. Joe was extremely pleased with him and he took an age to pull up.
23/10/21 Spirit went to Chelmsford where he looked to defy a penalty in a tactical 3 runner affair. He made the running and mostly raced alone. He was narrowly denied beaten a neck, giving the winner 7lb.
He has now been given an opening handicap mark of 87. He will be put away for the winter before being readied for a spring campaign.
16/4/22 Spirit Catcher made his seasonal debut at Musselburgh this afternoon, lining up in the Royal Mile Handicap he made his return a winning one.
30/4/22 Travelling to Newmarket, Spirit tried to make all in the Class 3 Handicap finding the undulating track too much being unable to handle the dip, stayed on for third the time was only a second slower than the guineas itself.
21/5/22 Lining up in the Class 2 Silver Bowl his toughest assignment to date, slightly disappointing the race just didn’t pan out for him. Being hassled for the lead the whole way they’ve gone flat out posting a couple of sub 12 second furlongs. Joe has just allowed him to coast home once beaten.
Spirit started running his races back to front, struggling to settle he just wasn’t finishing his races off. The application of a hood has worked wonders resulting in placed efforts at his beloved Redcar (he hasn’t been out the three there) beaten by a very well handicapped horse last time he’s subsequently gone on a deserved break and been gelded. He looks like he’s ready for the step up to 10f now.
